Back in 1996, on the eve of the first edition of Festivaletteratura, a group of citizens from Mantua, driven by a shared desire, joined the Festival’s Organizing Committee to turn a collective dream into reality: to create a true celebration bringing together authors and readers in the squares and historic buildings of the city.
At the close of each edition of the festival, the work of Filofestival continues through various initiatives in which members are invited to take part or collaborate at any time of the year, according to their interests and availability in their free time. From January each year, it is possible to become a member and support the Festival so that the five days of the Mantua event grow ever more engaging: today, the Friends of the Festival number over 3,000 and come from all over Italy — and even from abroad.
The Filofestival Association meets periodically in a general assembly and is coordinated by a five-member Executive Board, elected directly by the members every five years. The current members of the Executive Board are Stefano Mazzocchi (President), Massimo Parma, Valentina Muollo, Valerio Capuzzo, and Georgiana Ursache.
Every member makes an enormous contribution to the Festival: it is also thanks to the members’ annual fees that the Festival is able to organize, year after year, a high-quality event so rich in activities and cultural stimulation. Joining, therefore, is first and foremost a way to actively support the city and this important event.
First of all, once the Festival closes its doors in September, the Association’s work continues tirelessly throughout the year by promoting various initiatives in the local area, organizing “off-festival” meetings with authors, concerts, and other events in Mantua and its province. Being a member means having the opportunity to take part in and collaborate with Filofestival at any time of the year.
